About Us

How We Got Started

In the spring of 2009 this joyous discovery of growing lavender led to the creation of our non-profit organization, the Lavender Association of Western Colorado. With the help and guidance of Colorado State University Extension-Tri River Area, based in Grand Junction, Colorado, our founders plotted a course to promote lavender as an alternative cash crop in Western Colorado through education, research, networking and market development. It soon became apparent that the whole world is as excited about Colorado-grown lavender as we are!

In 2018, we changed our name to Lavender Association of Colorado, to encompass the whole state. We continue to have our Western Slope members from Carbondale to Paonia to Cortez to Cotapaxi and places throughout. We have been joined by growers from north of Fort Collins to Longmont to Littleton to Pueblo, and many points in between. Our Front Range members are tucked into subdivisions and can be found in small valleys in the foothills, and some are located on the high plains and are thriving in forested areas. Lavender is truly blooming statewide!

Cooperative work in research, education, and promotion plus the sharing of individual experiences has created a vast pool of useful information from which we all partake. As a member, your fresh ideas, experiences, questions and observations, keeps LAC confident that we will continue to provide its members with the necessary tools to grow the best lavender in the country.

As we move forward in our mission, To promote lavender as an alternative cash crop in Colorado, through education, research, networking and market development, we will continue to learn and share our knowledge and love of lavender through our website, classes and seminars, tours and festivals.

Committees are the task forces made up of our members who work alongside the Board of Directors to perform specialized duties in the interest of the members, community and Lavender Association of Colorado. If you are interested in helping us on our Committees, please contact us for more information.

Lavender Association of Colorado operates under the International Revenue Services (IRS) for non-profit organizations 501 (c) (6). Our Board of Directors manage this organization under the IRS requirements of 501 (c) (6) as well as the Bylaws voted upon by the general membership.
